Re:  Construction of climate smart post-harvest handling facilities of fresh produce to reduce losses for vegetables.

Background information

Kilimo Trust (KT) is a not-for-profit organization working on agriculture and agribusiness for development and creation of employment opportunities across East Africa (Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi).

Kilimo Trust Rwanda is implementing the Good Food for Cities (GFC) Project, a 5-year initiative (2022-2026) implemented in Rubavu District  to increase production and commercialization of affordable, healthy, and nutritious food (especially vegetables) produced using regenerative and other sustainable production practices with funding from the Belgian Government (DGD) through Rikolto SON.

Through GFC Project, Kilimo Trust Rwanda invites bids from eligible bidders to construct One (1) facility of Zero Energy Charcoal Cooler for fresh vegetables and fruits and One  (1)  Zero Energy Drying Facility for onions  in Rubavu District  under GFCProject to enable farmers to reduce post-harvest losses of their produce especially for fruits and vegetables.

The specification of the facilities to be constructed are described below for clarification:

Construction Details

Zero energy charcoal cooler.

  • Size (2.6mx5m).
  • Foundation in quarry stone masonry bound with cement and sand mortar.
  • Elevation is Vertically with Metallic tubes covered by Charcoal.
  • Inside is made by the shelves to keep the produce.
  • Roof covering with Grasses on trees trusses.
  • Floor is made of smoothed cement.

 Water tank structure

  • Foundation in quarry masonry bound with cement and sand mortar,
  • Elevation is Vertically with Metallic tubes.
  • 1500Ltrs plastic Tank (Polymer).
  • It is well installed with PPR pipes

Fence

  • The fence is made of Metallic tubes covered of mesh wires.

Zero Energy drying facilities for Onion

Rubavu District.

Construction Details

Zero Energy drying facilities for Onions

  • Size: (30.5mx10.5m).
  • Foundation in quarry masonry bound with cement and sand mortar.
  • Elevation is Vertically with eucalyptus trees with biding wires covered by Plastic sheeting    known as Polyethylene (HDPE).
  • Inside made by wooden shelves for keeping and drying onion
  • Roof covering with transparency corrugated polycarbonate daylight sheet (BG28) on tree trusses.
  • Floor is made of half smoothed cement    -External door is made of metallic frames.

Toilet house(1.65mx2.5m)

  • Foundation in quarry masonry bound with cement and sand mortar,
  • Elevation in burnt bricks masonry bound with cement mortar,
  • Roof covering with iron sheets on Tree trusses (BG32)
  • Floor is made of half smoothed cement    

Water tanks

  • Foundation in quarry masonry bound with cement and sand mortar,
  • 5000Ltrs plastic Tank (Polymer)

NOTE:

  1. Interested bidders are invited to visit the prototypes of those facilities for reference and the construction sites in Musanze  District on 27th August and Rubavu on 28thAugust-2024.
  2. Kilimo Trust Rwanda, in a fair and transparent manner, will select companies that fulfill all requirements.

 Interested and eligible bidders shall submit the following:

  • Expression of interest addressed to the Human Resource Managerof Kilimo Trust.
  • Priced Bill of Quantities per each facility or clearly quoted unit prices
  • Timeline for construction works.
  • References of similar works completed.
  • Company registration certificate.
  • Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) Tax Clearance Certificate.
  • Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) Clearance Certificate.

Submission and Deadline

All required documents must be written in English and submitted electronically in one folder to recruitment@kilimotrust.org not later than Friday 6th September 2024at 5:00 PM Rwanda Time. Late bids will be rejected.
