The Project

Within the Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition" of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented among others by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, sequa implements the project "Pilot SME Support Scheme targeting growth-orientated SMEs" in Rwanda. sequa aims to facilitate business growth and job creation of Rwandan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by increasing their competitiveness and productivity so that their products and services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets. A specific focus will be provided on women-owned SMEs, job creation, and employability training for women. No sectoral focus is foreseen.

Benefiting companies receive flexible and demand-oriented funding (management consulting, technical training, financial competence/business plan development, qualification, applied research activities, etc.). The support scheme will contribute to SMEs' change management and business growth.

The SME Support Scheme supports five medium-sized enterprises, such as Ambassadors Group Rwanda Ltd (AGR), with growth and job creation potential. The assignment aims to strengthen AGR market position in Rwanda by assessing current market dynamics, developing a comprehensive marketing strategy and sales plan, and enhancing the capacity of internal marketing and sales teams through targeted training.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of AGR's current market position, competition, target markets, and potential market opportunities.
  • Identify market trends, customer preferences, and competitive advantages. Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on the assessment.
  • Formulate a detailed marketing strategy tailored to AGR's business objectives, incorporating clear goals, market penetration approaches, customer acquisition methods, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Develop an actionable B2B & B2NGO sales plan with structured processes for lead generation, conversion, client management, and performance evaluation.
  • Design and deliver training sessions to the internal marketing and sales teams, focusing on market penetration strategies, effective sales techniques, customer relationship management, and performance monitoring.
  • Review and propose structural adjustments to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of AGR's marketing and sales units.

Your Qualifications / Skills

  • Education/training: University degree (master's or equivalent) in Marketing, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
  • Languages: Full proficiency in English (Kinyarwanda is a plus)
  • Other Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; good presentation skills; full computer literacy; outstanding writing and reporting skills in English; proficiency in standard office software and digital marketing tools

Your Working Experience

  • General professional experience: Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in marketing, sales, and business development.
  • Specific professional experience: Proven track record in conducting market assessments and developing actionable marketing strategies and sales plans, preferrable in the sport and leisure industries; sales experience in B2B and B2NGO; demonstrable experience in providing targeted training and capacity-building activities to marketing and sales teams.
  • Regional experience: 3 years of Experience working with or advising SMEs in emerging markets, preferably in Rwanda or East Africa.
