The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) launch a Call for Project Proposals

In an effort to further strengthen the capacity of Civil Society Organizations and to ensure CSO's contribution to Rwanda's human rights agenda, OHCHR in partnership with SDC launches a call for project proposals.

This call for proposals is launched in the framework of the OHCHR/SDC project to contribute to strengthening the capacities of National Commission for Human Rights and Civil Society Organizations in Rwanda. For this purpose, the OHCHR and SDC, plans to provide grants to CSOs that are registered in Rwanda, to implement projects and activities that will increase national capacities on Human Rights. The project will benefit rights holders including men, women, young people, children, persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups at large while respecting the principle of Leaving No One Behind. It will have national coverage with a priority of conducting activities in the regions and districts. The project aims at the reinforcement of the cooperation between Governmental Institutions, the UN Country Team (UNCT) and CSOs with the International Human Rights mechanisms, mainstreaming of a Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) in drafting strategic policies and development programs, etc.

Eligibility criteria for CSOs

To be eligible for this call for proposals, applicants must be:

A CSO or a platform of CSOs established in accordance with Rwandese legislation, with a valid licence (Certificate of registration) issued by the competent authority (RGB).

  • A CSO or a platform of CSOs working in human rights area;
  • Directly responsible for the implementation and management of the project, not acting as intermediary.

Entities not meeting the above requirements will not be considered.

Eligible project proposals can focus on one of the following types of activities:

  • Sensitization activities for children, youths, women organisations, older people, people with disabilities, people discriminated against on the basis of their sexuality, religion or colour etc... on international Human Rights conventions and UPR recommendations in districts and in schools. Emphasis should be placed on the rights of these groups in line with the principle of "Leaving No One Behind".
  • Capacity building for members of CSOs networks on international and regional mechanisms as well as on human rights monitoring and reporting techniques. Special emphasis should be placed on the human rights of specific groups such as children, youths, women, older people, people with disabilities, people discriminated against on the basis of their sexuality, religion or colour etc.
  • Capacity building for members of CSOs networks relating to the monitoring of the implementation of the international Covenant on the economic and social and cultural rights in Rwanda.
  • Capacity building workshops on the drafting and validation of shadow reports to human rights mechanisms. Commemoration of the international Human Rights Day, creating great public awareness on human rights.
  • Stakeholder dialogues and exchanges on the advancement of human rights in the frameworks of international conventions and mechanisms
